Niall Breslin and The Polaris Quartet at the National Opera House Wexford

At National Opera House · High Street, Wexford, Co. Wexford, Y35 FEP3

Musician and string quartet performing at the National Opera House Wexford

What to Expect

Niall Breslin returns to the National Opera House with The Polaris Quartet on Sunday 8 November at 7:30 PM for The Place That has Never Been Wounded, following a sold-out national tour. The performance draws on his most recent album and book of the same project, and it is not a straightforward gig: music, spoken word and visual design are woven together, with lighting and projected imagery responding in real time to what the musicians are playing.

The album was named one of the best Irish albums of the year by The Irish Times, whose reviewer wrote that Breslin’s instinctive, deeply empathetic playing burrows deeper in the head, resulting in a lingering serenity. That gives a fair sense of the register: contemplative, quiet, built around piano and strings rather than a band arrangement. The 7:30 PM start in the main auditorium suits the material, and it closes out a busy first weekend of November at the venue.

Getting There

The National Opera House is on High Street in the centre of Wexford town, minutes uphill from the quays. Approach on the N11 from Dublin and Gorey or the N25 from Rosslare Europort and New Ross. Wexford O’Hanrahan station, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is about ten minutes’ walk from the door, and Sunday evening trains back towards Dublin are limited, so check the timetable before booking. Paid parking is available on the quay front and in the town centre car parks, and is generally easier on a Sunday than a Saturday.
