What to Expect

New Ross Men’s Shed runs a short weekday session, open Monday to Friday from 10.30am to 12 noon, at its premises in Irishtown on the edge of New Ross town centre. The daily mid-morning slot suits men who want regular contact rather than one long weekly session, and it means there is somewhere to call in most days of the working week.

Men’s sheds are deliberately informal. There is no course to sign up to and no set curriculum. Members drift in, work on whatever project is on the go, have tea and talk, and leave when they want to. The Irish Men’s Sheds Association, which New Ross is affiliated to, describes the model as a community space where men come together to work on practical projects and, in doing so, look after their own health and wellbeing. The New Ross shed does not publish a fixed activity list online, so the simplest way to find out what is happening at the moment is to phone one of the two contacts and arrange to drop in on a morning.

Getting There

Irishtown is on the New Ross side of the River Barrow, a short walk up from the quays and the Dunbrody Famine Ship, and it is within about ten minutes on foot of South Street and the main shopping streets. Drivers coming from Wexford town take the N25 and cross at the New Ross bypass bridge, then follow signs into the town centre. From Waterford the N25 runs the other way, and from Kilkenny the R700 comes in along the river. There is public parking on the quay and in the town centre car parks. Bus Eireann route 370 and the Waterford to Wexford services stop in New Ross.
