Munster Club Championships 2026: Waterford's Opening Rounds

What to Expect

Once the Waterford county finals are settled, the winners cross into provincial competition. Munster GAA has published the 2026 club championship calendar and Waterford’s representatives come in across five grades between the end of October and early December.

The first Waterford involvement is the junior hurling quarter-final on Saturday 31 October, against the Cork champions. The intermediate hurling quarter-final follows on Sunday 1 November, pairing the Waterford champions with Abbeydorney of Kerry. The football side of the calendar starts a week later: the senior football quarter-final on Sunday 8 November sends the Waterford champions against Clare, and the intermediate football quarter-final on the same day pairs Clare and Waterford in that grade. The Waterford senior hurling champions get a bye to the provincial semi-final on Sunday 15 November against the Limerick champions, reflecting the strength of the Waterford senior grade. The Munster junior football semi-final on 21 November also involves a Waterford side, listed against the Kerry representatives.

• Venues and throw-in times are set once the county finals are played. Munster GAA publish them on their fixtures page. Finals run from 28 November to 6 December.

Getting There

Venues are not confirmed until the county championships finish, and Munster club ties are allocated to a neutral or home ground depending on the draw. If a game lands in Waterford it will most likely go to Fraher Field in Dungarvan or Walsh Park in Waterford city. Fraher Field is five minutes on foot from Grattan Square, 45 minutes from Waterford on the N25 and an hour from Cork. Walsh Park is on the Slievekeale Road, a 15-minute walk from Plunkett Station and on city bus routes. For away ties, Bus Éireann and Irish Rail run direct services to Limerick, Cork and Clonmel, and most clubs organise supporters’ buses.
