Culture Night 2026 in Mayo

At Venues across County Mayo · County Mayo

Culture Night late openings at venues across County Mayo

What to Expect

Culture Night 2026 falls on Friday 18 September. It is a single national evening on which arts venues, museums, galleries, studios, libraries and heritage sites open late and free of charge, delivered nationwide across cities, towns, villages and rural locations. In Mayo that usually means arts centres, libraries and local heritage buildings running one-off events after hours, often in places that are not normally open to the public in the evening.

Mayo listings appear on the Culture Night website as organisers register them, and the national site lets you filter events by county. As of early August the Mayo count was still in single figures, which is normal at that stage: organisers add events steadily through August and early September, so the county listing looks very different by the week of the event. Check culturenight.ie in the fortnight before 18 September for the confirmed Mayo programme rather than relying on an early listing.

Getting There

Culture Night events are spread across the county rather than gathered in one place, so the practical approach is to pick a town and stay there for the evening. Castlebar, Westport, Ballina and Claremorris all have arts venues and libraries in walking distance of their town centres and are the usual focus. Castlebar, Westport, Claremorris and Ballyhaunis are all on the Dublin Heuston to Westport railway line, and Ballina is on a branch of it, which makes a train and a walk a workable plan for a free evening out. Bus Eireann links Castlebar, Westport, Ballina, Claremorris and Ballyhaunis. Check the individual venue listing for parking, as several Culture Night sites are in pedestrianised or restricted streets.
