Rosie Harel-Dore leads a six-week Saturday drawing course at Ballina Arts Centre, running from Saturday, 19 September to Saturday, 24 October 2026, 3pm to 5pm each week.
The course breaks animal drawing into six weekly themes: birds in week one; dogs, cats and other four-legged animals in week two; horses and hoofed mammals in week three; insects, spiders and bugs in week four; aquatic life in week five; and drawing from live observation in the final week. Each two-hour session uses simple shapes to help newcomers build up to more complex forms with confidence. Harel-Dore is a Mayo-based artist who specialises in animal illustration using ink and watercolours, and the course runs as a full six-week sequence rather than single drop-in classes.
Ballina Arts Centre is on Barrett Street, Ballina, County Mayo, F26 NW83, in Mayo’s largest town.
Ballina sits where the River Moy, one of Ireland’s great salmon rivers, opens into Killala Bay. It’s a working town of around 11,700 people with plenty to fill a Saturday afternoon once class wraps up, from a walk along the river to the Humbert Inn, which marks the French landing at nearby Killala in 1798. The town’s cathedral and the wider Wild Atlantic Way coastline are also close by if you want to make a full day of the visit. See more in Ballina, or browse everything on in County Mayo.
