What to Expect

The Museum of Country Life sets aside the first hour of the day on Saturday 29 August 2026, 10am to 11am, as a quiet hour. Background music is reduced or switched off entirely and the gallery lighting is dimmed, so that visitors who find busy, bright and noisy environments stressful can see the collection on easier terms. Getting There

Turlough Park sits on the N5 about 8km northeast of Castlebar, signposted on the left as you head from Castlebar towards Swinford. Parking is free and plentiful, and arriving for a 10am start means the car park will be near empty. The route from the car park to the entrance is level and surfaced, and the museum is wheelchair accessible throughout. Castlebar, ten minutes back along the N5, has the nearest railway station on the Dublin Heuston to Westport line.
