Mayo Sailing Club Family Fun Day for Daisy Lodge

At Mayo Sailing Club, Rosmoney · Rosmoney, Westport, Co. Mayo

Boats moored at Rosmoney pier on Clew Bay near Westport, County Mayo

What to Expect

Mayo Sailing Club opens its base at Rosmoney on the shores of Clew Bay for a family fun day on Saturday 22 August 2026, running from noon to 6pm. The whole day is a fundraiser for Cancer Fund for Children and specifically for Daisy Lodge, a therapeutic short-break centre for children and families affected by cancer that is due to open near Cong in spring 2027.

The programme is built around the water. There are fast RIB rides out into the bay, kayaking, pier jumping and swimming races, with a barbecue running through the afternoon. The club’s junior sailors will roll their boat Misneach into the water as a demonstration. The other draw is a chance to meet rowers Tom Bourke and Bryan Hyland, who will be on site to talk about the Daisy Voyage, their attempt to row more than 3,000 miles across the Atlantic starting in December. Club commodore Conn Lavelle said the club is “delighted to support Daisy Voyage and the incredible fundraising efforts in aid of Cancer Fund for Children”.

Getting There

Parking at the club is limited on busy days, so arriving early or car sharing is sensible. Westport is the nearest town for food, fuel and accommodation, roughly ten minutes back along the coast road, and Westport railway station on the Dublin Heuston line is about 15 minutes away by car.
