What to Expect

A Rosary Procession in honour of Our Lady of the Assumption starts at Holy Family Church in Ballsgrove at 4pm on Saturday 15 August 2026 and walks a circuit of the Ballsgrove area before returning. It is a street devotion of the old kind: people walk together, the decades of the Rosary are led aloud as the procession moves, and neighbours join in from doorways along the route.

The date is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven, a holyday of obligation in Ireland and one of the traditional days for outdoor Marian processions. It is organised within St Peter’s Parish, which covers Ballsgrove, and it follows a full Assumption Mass schedule earlier the same day: 8.30am and 10.30am in St Peter’s Church on West Street, and 10am in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, with a vigil Mass on the Friday evening at 7.30pm in Our Lady of Lourdes. The 10.30am Mass in St Peter’s doubles as the parish’s 36th Eucharistic Adoration Anniversary Mass of Thanksgiving.

Getting There

Ballsgrove is on the south side of Drogheda, uphill from the Boyne and a short distance from the Dublin Road approach into town. It is about a fifteen minute walk from Drogheda town centre and West Street, and local bus services run along the Dublin Road nearby. Parking is on-street in the estate, so leave driveways and junctions clear if you drive.
