Rosary for Those Lost at Sea, Clogherhead Harbour

What to Expect

The Legion of Mary will lead the Rosary at the entrance to the harbour car park at Clogherhead on Saturday 15 August 2026 at 3pm. The intention is stated plainly by the parish: prayers for those lost at sea, and for the protection and safety of people who work at sea. Clogherhead is a working fishing port, and this is a fishing community’s own devotion rather than a visitor attraction.

The date is the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a holyday of obligation and the traditional day for maritime and harbour devotions around the Irish coast. The gathering is outdoors and takes about half an hour. There is nothing to book and no formal order of service beyond the five decades and the prayers said at the end, and people arrive, stand, join in and go. It is one of three parish events at the harbour across August, with the annual cemetery blessings on 16 August and the Blessing of the Boats on 30 August at 3pm.

Getting There

Clogherhead is on the Louth coast between Termonfeckin and Annagassan, with Port Oriel harbour signposted through the village at the eastern end. From Drogheda take the R166 through Termonfeckin, about twenty minutes by car. From the M1 leave at Dunleer and follow the R168 east. The harbour car park is small and used by the fishing fleet, so leave the slipway, gates and loading bays clear when parking.
