What to Expect

Dundalk Library runs a Memory Cafe on the second Tuesday of each month from 2:30pm to 3:30pm. The library has confirmed that it is on summer break and returns in September, which puts the next session on Tuesday 8 September 2026. It is free.

A memory cafe is a monthly hour where people living with dementia and the people who care for them can sit in an ordinary public space with tea and company, without having to explain anything. That is the whole design of it. The format spread across Ireland over the past decade through libraries, parish halls and community centres, usually built around light activity and conversation rather than a programme, and public libraries have turned out to be a particularly good host: they are free, central, familiar and not medical. Louth Libraries have paired theirs with a Family Carers Support Group at the same branch, which meets on the last Wednesday of the month from 10:30am to noon and needs no booking, so between the two there is a monthly point of contact in Dundalk for both sides of a caring relationship. Ring the library before a first visit to confirm the September restart date and to let them know you are coming.

Getting There

Dundalk Library is on Roden Place in the town centre, beside St Patrick’s Cathedral and a couple of minutes from Market Square. The bus station on the Long Walk is a short walk away and Dundalk Clarke rail station on the Dublin to Belfast line is about fifteen minutes on foot. Drivers should leave the M1 at junction 16 or 18 and follow the town centre signs. The Marshes Shopping Centre multi-storey and the Park Street car parks are the nearest, with a handful of accessible metered spaces close to the library entrance.
