“Just Write” is Drogheda Library’s adult creative writing group, meeting on the first and third Tuesday of every month from 2:30pm to 4pm. It runs on the branch’s standing programme rather than in terms, so it continues through the year and new writers can join at any meeting. The next session falls on Tuesday 18 August 2026, the third Tuesday of the month. There is no charge.
Two sessions a month at ninety minutes each is the shape most successful library writing groups settle into: frequent enough to keep work moving, spaced enough that people actually write something between meetings. Groups like this usually mix prompt-based writing done in the room with members bringing pieces to read and discuss, and they draw a wide range, from people working on a novel to people who have never shown anyone a page. Drogheda has a genuine literary and arts base to sit inside, with Droichead Arts Centre and the Highlanes Gallery both in the town centre and a long-running programme of readings and workshops around them, and the library has separately brought in published authors for one-off workshops. If you are nervous about a first visit, ring the library and ask what a typical session looks like before you commit.
Drogheda Library is on Stockwell Lane, just off Fair Street in the town centre and a short walk uphill from West Street. The bus station on Donore Road is a few minutes away, and Drogheda MacBride rail station on the Dublin to Belfast line is about fifteen minutes on foot across the Boyne. Drivers coming off the M1 should follow the town centre signs; Scotch Hall and the surface car parks around Laurence Street and Fair Street are the closest, and both are within a few minutes of the library door.
