What to Expect

The Highwaymen Reincarnated recreates the decade when Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson recorded and toured as a single group. The show covers the 1985 to 1995 period of that collaboration, with four lead vocalists backed by a nine-piece live band.

Micheál McGarry takes the Johnny Cash role, Michael McGarry plays Waylon Jennings, Aiden McCluskey performs as Willie Nelson using a handcrafted recreation of Nelson’s guitar, and David “Butch” Cassidy covers Kris Kristofferson. They are supported by a group of Irish players including guitarist Robbie Fitzgerald. The staging leans on cinematic visuals and lighting alongside the live band, and the production uses strobe lighting and haze, which The TLT flags for anyone who needs to know in advance. It runs in the Main Hall, the venue’s larger seated auditorium.

Getting There

The TLT is tucked on Matthew’s Lane off Laurence Street, in the middle of Drogheda near the Tholsel. Drivers from Dublin, Dundalk or Belfast leave the M1 at junction 9 or 10 and follow the town centre signs. Parking is easiest at Scotch Hall on the south bank or at the Laurence Shopping Centre car park a minute from the door, and on-street spaces along Laurence Street and George’s Street are free in the evenings. Drogheda MacBride railway station is about a 15 minute walk across the Boyne, with Dublin and Belfast services. Bus Éireann and Matthews coaches stop on the Dublin Road and at the Donore Road bus station.
