Once a month Dundalk Library sets aside an hour to walk people through what their library card gets them online. A Louth library membership covers a good deal more than borrowing physical books, and most members never use the digital side of it because nobody has ever shown them how.
The demonstration covers the eBook and eAudiobook platforms, along with the other online services the county library subscribes to. Bring your own phone, tablet or laptop if you have one, because the useful part is getting the apps set up on your own device with your own membership number rather than watching it happen on someone else’s screen. Staff will get you logged in and borrowing before you leave. If you do not have a device, come anyway and see what is available before deciding whether it is worth buying one.
The session is free and runs on the last Friday of each month at eleven o’clock. Ardee Library runs the same demonstration on the last Friday of the month at 10:30 AM, and Drogheda Library runs one on the last Thursday of the month from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, so there is a version of it within reach of most of the county. Dundalk Library also offers free computer classes for groups, arranged by phoning the branch directly.
Dundalk Library is on Roden Place in central Dundalk, beside St Patrick’s Cathedral and Louth County Museum. Dundalk is served by junctions 16 to 18 of the M1 between Dublin and Belfast. Street parking around Roden Place is pay and display, with larger car parks at the Marshes Shopping Centre and Long Walk nearby. Dundalk Clarke railway station is about fifteen minutes’ walk, on the Dublin to Belfast line, and Bus Eireann and town bus services stop in the centre.
