What to Expect

DRUIM Collective have spent close to two years putting on experimental music nights around Drogheda, and Volume I is the point where that work becomes a festival in its own right. The billing is specific rather than broad: drone, noise and experimental music, presented as a single afternoon and evening programme in one room rather than spread across multiple stages.

The line-up is drawn from musicians and sound artists who have played for or worked with the collective over the past two years, which the organisers describe as reflecting the diversity and vitality of Ireland’s experimental music community. The setting matters as much as the programme here. St Brigid’s Church is a nineteenth century church on the Beaulieu House estate, and the natural reverberation of a stone church interior is a large part of why this kind of music gets programmed in one. Louth County Council and Beaulieu House have both supported the event.

Getting There

Beaulieu House sits on the north bank of the Boyne a few kilometres east of Drogheda town, reached by the local road running downriver from the town centre. Drogheda itself is signposted from junctions 9 and 10 of the M1 between Dublin and Belfast, and is roughly 45 minutes from Dublin Airport in normal traffic. There is parking within the Beaulieu estate. The house is outside the town bus network, so anyone arriving by rail into Drogheda MacBride station or by Bus Eireann into the town centre will need a taxi or a lift for the last stretch.
