Dundalk Musical Society describes Calamity Jane as a much-loved musical packed with humour and heart, with songs including The Deadwood Stage (Whip-Crack-Away), Secret Love, Just Blew in from the Windy City and Black Hills of Dakota. The society follows the fearless title character as her larger-than-life adventures take some surprising turns, proving that love and friendship can appear in the most unexpected places. The production marks the society’s 75th year of staging musical theatre in Dundalk.
An Táin Arts Centre hosts the show as part of its year-round mix of local arts, national touring productions and in-house work. The venue has a 350 seat main theatre, a 55 seat studio theatre and a visual arts gallery, and is supported by Louth County Council and The Arts Council. It takes its own name from the Táin Bó Cúailnge, the legendary Cattle Raid of Cooley said to have taken place on the nearby Cooley Peninsula.
