What to Expect

Ardee Library runs a board games club every Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm. Games are provided by the branch and the club runs as a drop-in, so there is no membership, no fee and no need to bring anything or anyone with you. Saturday afternoon in a market town is a dead slot for a lot of people, and a table of games in a warm building is a straightforward answer to it.

Library games clubs tend to draw a wide spread of ages, from teenagers through to retired players, and the games run from quick card and tile games that can be taught in five minutes to longer strategy boxes that take an afternoon. Turning up alone is normal and expected: you are put onto a table with whoever is there. It also works as a family option, with parents and children playing at the same table rather than in separate rooms.

Ardee Library keeps a full weekly programme alongside the games club, including conversational Irish on Thursday mornings, knitting and crochet on Thursday afternoons, a tapestry group on Wednesdays and an adult book club on the fourth Thursday of the month. There is also a Tuesday afternoon film screening at 2.15pm. The branch is one of the busier small-town libraries in Louth for adult social groups.

Getting There

Ardee Library is on Market Street, the main street through the town, close to the crossroads at the top of the town and a short walk from the Jumping Church road and Castle Street. Ardee sits on the N2 Dublin to Monaghan road, with the N52 running east to Dundalk and the M1 and south west towards Kells. There is on-street parking along Market Street and further parking in the town centre car parks a few minutes away. Bus services between Dundalk, Ardee and Drogheda stop in the town centre.
