What to Expect

The Apostles of Love hold a prayer and healing time every Tuesday from 11am to 1pm at the Oasis of Peace Centre at Mellifont Abbey in Collon village. The two hours are built around three elements the group names itself: the Rosary, Scripture, and Eucharistic healing. It is a lay-led prayer gathering rather than a parish Mass, and it is publicised through the parish newsletters of the surrounding area.

Mellifont at Collon is the modern Cistercian community, New Mellifont Abbey, a few miles from the ruins of the original twelfth-century foundation on the Mattock river outside Drogheda. That first Mellifont was the earliest Cistercian house in Ireland, founded in 1142, and the monks moved to the Collon site in 1938. The setting is quiet farmland, and the format is unhurried: people come and go through the two hours rather than sitting through a fixed service from start to finish. Nothing needs to be booked and there is no charge.

Getting There

Collon village sits on the N2 between Ardee and Slane, roughly fifteen minutes’ drive from Drogheda and twenty from Ardee. New Mellifont Abbey is signposted from the village. There is parking on site. Bus services on the N2 corridor stop in Collon village, but they are limited on weekdays, so check timetables in advance if you are not driving.
