What to Expect

Ardee Library runs an adult book club on the fourth Thursday of each month. Louth Library Service supplies the reading copies through its book club sets, so members borrow the title from the branch rather than buying it, which is the main practical advantage of a library reading group over one run out of somebody’s sitting room. The next meeting falls on Thursday 27 August 2026.

Titles are picked by the group and rotate across fiction, non-fiction and Irish writing. New members are taken on at the issue desk, where staff will add you to the list and tell you what the current book is and when to collect it. Because the reading copies are issued a few weeks in advance, it is worth calling in before the meeting rather than turning up on the night expecting to be handed a book. Meeting times are set by the group, so confirm the start time with the branch when you join.

The book club sits inside a wider adult programme at the Market Street branch: conversational Irish on Thursday mornings, knitting and crochet on Thursday afternoons, a tapestry group on Wednesdays, a Saturday board games club, and a Tuesday afternoon film screening at 2.15pm. Between them they give Ardee something running most days of the week without any charge attached.

Getting There

Ardee Library is on Market Street, the main street running through the town, a short walk from the crossroads at the top of Ardee. The town sits on the N2 Dublin to Monaghan road, with the N52 linking east to Dundalk and the M1 and south west towards Kells. On-street parking is available along Market Street, with the town centre car parks a couple of minutes further on foot. Bus services between Dundalk, Ardee and Drogheda stop in the town centre.
