Children's Photography Workshop with Craig at Edgeworthstown Library

At Edgeworthstown Library · Edgeworthstown Library, Edgeworthstown, Co. Longford

Children learning photography at a free workshop in Edgeworthstown Library, County Longford

What to Expect

Edgeworthstown Library runs a ninety minute photography workshop for children with Craig on Thursday 20 August, one of the last events in its packed summer programme. It is a practical session rather than a talk, so children spend most of the time taking pictures and looking at what they have taken.

Edgeworthstown has been the busiest branch in the county over the summer, running giant games afternoons, Mario Kart tournaments, Warhammer painting, movie shows, Pokemon and football card swaps, pencil drawing and storytimes. The photography workshop is pitched at the older end of that programme, and it follows the pencil drawing workshop held the week before, so the branch is clearly building a small visual arts strand for children alongside the games and screenings.

Longford Libraries also run a youth photography contest, so the timing gives young photographers something to work towards.

Getting There

Edgeworthstown, also called Mostrim, sits on the N4 about 14 kilometres east of Longford town and roughly 30 kilometres north west of Mullingar. The library is in the village centre, close to the main crossroads where the N4 meets the R395 Granard road, and within a few minutes’ walk of the Maria Edgeworth Centre on the Ballymahon Road.

Edgeworthstown railway station is in the village itself on the Dublin Connolly to Sligo line, which makes this a genuinely easy trip without a car. Bus Eireann route 23 between Dublin and Sligo also stops here. Drivers will find on-street parking around the village centre, which is usually manageable on a weekday afternoon.
