Samhain Tales at The People's Museum of Limerick

At The People's Museum of Limerick · 2 Pery Square, Limerick City, Co. Limerick

Storyteller performing Halloween tales at The People's Museum of Limerick

Storyteller Dáithí Collopy brings a Halloween programme of traditional Irish tales to The People’s Museum of Limerick on Pery Square for Samhain Tales, an hour of family-friendly storytelling built around the folklore of Samhain. It is organised by Limerick Civic Trust with support from Limerick City and County Council, and doors open at 1.45pm ahead of a 2pm start, giving families time to settle in before the stories begin.

What to expect

The hour-long show covers the Irish origins and traditions of Samhain, alongside specific local and national legends: the tale of Seán na Gealaí, the haunting of Thomond Bridge, and the curse of St Munchin. Traditional Irish music runs through the performance alongside the storytelling, and the afternoon closes with a children’s trick-or-treat parade, giving younger visitors a chance to dress up and take part rather than just sit and listen. It is pitched at all ages, so it suits a family outing rather than being aimed narrowly at very young children, and the museum’s Georgian townhouse setting on Pery Square adds its own atmosphere to a Halloween storytelling session. Limerick Civic Trust runs The People’s Museum of Limerick and programmes events like this alongside its core work preserving the city’s Georgian heritage.

Getting there

The People’s Museum of Limerick is at 2 Pery Square in the city’s Georgian Quarter, close to the People’s Park and a short walk from O’Connell Street. Paid parking is available nearby, and it is roughly a fifteen-minute walk from Colbert Station.

While you’re in Limerick City

Pery Square sits at the edge of Limerick’s Georgian Quarter, with the People’s Park and The Crescent both within easy walking distance. There is more to see in Limerick City and across Co. Limerick.
