Loophole by The Acorn Players at the Island Theatre

What to Expect

The Acorn Players, the drama group based in Mohill in south Leitrim, bring their production of Loophole to the Island Theatre in Ballinamore on Saturday 19 September. The play is set in the present day and turns on two hard-pressed farmers, Paidi and Cass, who pass for best friends until money enters the picture. Paidi has been told he has six months left and decides to leave the land to Cass, which is the point at which everyone else starts to take an interest.

Paidi’s no-good brother Rooster arrives to make trouble, as does Kasia, a Polish woman with her own designs on the arrangement, while the local solicitor Miss Murphy tries to hold the will together. Two nosey neighbours, Mairead and Molly, keep the news moving around the parish. The Acorn Players have toured the show around venues in Leitrim and beyond, and it runs at about an hour and thirty-five minutes with an interval. Curtain is 8pm.

Getting There

The Island Theatre is on Convent Road in Ballinamore, in central Leitrim on the Shannon-Erne Waterway. Roads run in from Carrick-on-Shannon, Mohill, Carrigallen and the Cavan side at Swanlinbar, and the town is signposted from the N4 at Carrick-on-Shannon. There is no rail service to Ballinamore itself; Dromod on the Dublin Connolly to Sligo line is the nearest station, with Carrick-on-Shannon a further option. TFI Local Link operates rural routes in this part of the county, so check the timetable before travelling. Parking is available at the theatre and on nearby streets.
