At Carrick-on-Shannon Sports Complex · 18 Glen Carrick, Summerhill, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim, N41 HA27
Leitrim Sports Partnership starts an eight-week Couch to 5k programme at Carrick-on-Shannon Sports Complex on Monday 24 August 2026. The group meets twice a week, Mondays and Wednesdays from 6.15pm to 7.15pm, making 16 sessions in all, and the fee for the whole programme is €20.
It is built for adults who are starting from nothing rather than for runners looking to sharpen up: the sessions build gradually from walk and jog intervals towards continuous running, with the aim that everyone finishing the eight weeks is able to complete a 5km event. It is open to men and women aged 18 and over and is run as a friendly social run group rather than a training squad, so nobody gets left behind on the road. Bring running shoes and clothing suited to late summer and autumn evenings, since sessions run outdoors from the complex and the light will be going by the closing weeks in October. Places are booked in advance through Eventbrite.
Carrick-on-Shannon Sports Complex is at Summerhill on the edge of the town, off the N4, with parking on site. The town is on the Dublin to Sligo rail line and the station is about a 20 minute walk from the complex, or five minutes by car. Coming from Boyle, Mohill or Drumshanbo, allow 15 to 25 minutes. With a 6.15pm start, evening traffic through the town centre is worth allowing for.
