At The Barrelstore · Bridge Street, Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Leitrim
Ukrainian singer Ruslan Veliiev plays a live set at The Barrelstore in Carrick-on-Shannon, mixing his own compositions with traditional and well-known Ukrainian songs. The concert is the first half of the night; after the live performance the room turns over to a disco that runs to midnight, so the event is billed as a full evening out rather than a support-and-headline gig.
The night is put together as a gathering point for Ukrainians living in Leitrim and the surrounding counties, with time built in for people to meet and catch up, and a Ukrainian chef preparing traditional dishes on site. A share of the ticket money goes to support the Ukrainian armed forces. The organiser notes that refunds are available up to three days before the event. Everyone is welcome, and the mix of live music, food and dancing makes it accessible whether or not you speak Ukrainian.
The Barrelstore is on Bridge Street in the centre of Carrick-on-Shannon, a short walk from the bridge over the Shannon and from Main Street. The town is on the N4 Dublin to Sligo road, around two hours from Dublin and forty minutes from Sligo. Carrick-on-Shannon railway station is on the Dublin Connolly to Sligo line and is within walking distance of Bridge Street, and Bus Eireann’s Dublin to Sligo coaches stop in the town. Public parking is available at the Market Yard Centre and along the quays, both a couple of minutes away on foot, and evening street parking around Bridge Street is usually easier to find than on a weekend market day.
