What to Expect

Seed Stories is a two-hour National Heritage Week gathering run by Leitrim Environmental Network at Mohill Station House. The session starts with the seeds themselves: participants handle a range of botanical specimens and work through identifying different tree and plant seeds, learning what distinguishes one from another and where each comes from in the local landscape.

The second half turns those specimens into something more personal. Everyone makes a piece of artwork and shares a recollection, either of something they have grown themselves or of a place in nature that matters to them. The organisers describe it as building community connection through stories of growing and home. Light bites are provided during the session, and every participant leaves with seeds to plant and a story shared. Numbers are capped because of the hands-on format, so advance registration is required even though the event is free.

Getting There

Mohill Station House is on Station Road in Mohill, in south Leitrim roughly fifteen kilometres south-east of Carrick-on-Shannon and a short run from Dromod. The town is reached on regional roads from the N4 at Dromod or Carrick-on-Shannon, and from Ballinamore to the north-east. The nearest railway station is Dromod, on the Dublin Connolly to Sligo line, about eight kilometres away, with taxis but no regular connecting bus timed to events. There is parking at the Station House site and on-street parking in Mohill town, a few minutes’ walk away. Local Link operates rural bus services through Mohill, though Saturday timetables are limited.
