At The Organic Centre · Rossinver, Co. Leitrim, F91 H978
Wild Mushroom Foraging runs three times across the 2026 autumn season at The Organic Centre in Rossinver, taught by Finn Melia. The next date is Sunday 6 September 2026, followed by Sunday 20 September and Sunday 11 October. Each is a standalone one-day course from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, priced at €90, and the three dates are spread deliberately across the season because what is fruiting in the woods in early September differs from what is up in mid October.
The day opens with an indoor introductory session covering how fungi grow, identification techniques and the things to watch for when gathering mushrooms, and then moves outdoors for a practical hunt in the forest. Tea and coffee are provided on arrival. Lunch is not, so a packed lunch is needed. Participants are asked to bring rainproof gear and clothing suited to the weather, a small sharp knife, and a basket for collecting, explicitly not plastic bags, since bagged mushrooms sweat and deteriorate and spores cannot fall through. Booking is in advance through the centre’s online shop, and reduced rates are available to students and people on income supports by contacting the office directly.
The Organic Centre is signposted off the R281 near Rossinver in north Leitrim, on the road between Manorhamilton and Kinlough along the southern side of Lough Melvin. Manorhamilton is about 20 minutes by car, Kinlough and Bundoran 20 to 25 minutes, Enniskillen roughly 45 minutes and Sligo town around 50 minutes. Free parking is available on site. Public transport into Rossinver is very limited, so participants drive or car share. The forest section of the day means uneven ground underfoot, so boots rather than shoes are the sensible choice.
