Her Outdoors: Try Beach Volleyball, Kilkee and Lahinch

At Kilkee Beach and Lahinch Beach · Kilkee Beach, Kilkee, and Lahinch Beach, Lahinch, Co. Clare

Women playing beach volleyball on a west Clare strand

What to Expect

Clare Sports Partnership is putting on two free beach volleyball taster sessions on Monday 17 August 2026, both women-only and both an hour long. The first runs at 10am on Kilkee Beach in west Clare, the second at 2pm on Lahinch Beach further up the coast. They are part of Her Outdoors, the partnership’s August programme of women’s outdoor activity sessions, which this summer has taken in kayaking, archery, surfing, paddleboarding, hiking and rock climbing at venues around the county.

Beach volleyball tasters like these are pitched at complete beginners. Sessions are led by a coach, played on sand with a portable net, and structured around basic passing and serving before a short game rather than around drilling technique. Both venues are Blue Flag strands with lifeguard cover and facilities in the adjacent towns, so it is a low-commitment way to try the sport. The two sessions are separate bookings, so you can take whichever suits your day, and they are free of charge, which is unusual for the Her Outdoors programme where most sessions carry a €10 or €15 fee. Bring sun cover, water and clothing you can move in.
