What to Expect

Happiness Then is a comedy drama by Elizabeth Moynihan, presented by Bernie Bourke and Liam Halligan as a Bewley’s Cafe Theatre production, and it comes to Wexford Arts Centre on Friday 16 October. It is a two-hander about sisters Bridget and Frances, who meet for the first time in years after their mother’s death and proceed to bicker as only sisters can, over everything from the wine to the will.

Underneath the sparring the play works through the fallout of being left behind, with the sisters’ loves and losses examined and re-examined in sharp dialogue. Emer O’Kelly in the Sunday Independent called it sharp and very sophisticated, as witty as it is full of acuity, and The Arts Review described two riveting performances in a piece that is genuinely heartfelt. The central question is whether the two can find enough common ground to repair their relationship with each other and with the people around them. It is recommended for ages 12 and over.

Getting There

Wexford Arts Centre is in the Cornmarket in the pedestrianised centre of Wexford town, a short walk up from the quay front. Drive in on the N11 from Dublin and Gorey or the N25 from New Ross and Rosslare Europort. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is around ten minutes away on foot. Parking is at a premium during opera festival fortnight, so use the quay front car parks and give yourself extra time.
