What to Expect

Gorey parkrun sets off every Saturday at 9:30am from the Fort Road entrance to Gorey District Park, a free, timed 5k open to walkers, joggers and runners of every ability. The park is one of the newer public spaces in north Wexford: the original District Park was combined with the former Show Grounds site from 2019 onward to create a 13 acre amenity that now holds a children’s playground, a municipal skate park, a sand carpet grass pitch, a constructed wetland and a universal access walking route, along with a cafe and social space. The 5k route uses those surfaced paths, so it is even underfoot and easy to follow without local knowledge.

Like every parkrun, Gorey is free to enter and run entirely by volunteers, with marshals, timekeepers and barcode scanners drawn from the local running and walking community each week. First timers register once at parkrun.ie and bring a barcode, printed or on a phone, to be scanned at the finish so the time is recorded. After that, turning up on a Saturday morning is the whole process. The flat path surface suits buggies, walkers and complete beginners as readily as club athletes treating it as a weekly time trial, and the field usually spans both ends of that range. Plenty of participants stay on afterwards for coffee at the park cafe once results are done.

Getting There

Gorey District Park is on the Fort Road on the edge of Gorey town, within walking distance of the main street, with an on site car park that includes camper van facilities. Gorey is served by Bus Eireann and Wexford Bus routes from Dublin, Arklow and Wexford town, and Gorey railway station on the Dublin to Rosslare line is about a 15 minute walk from the park.
