What to Expect

Heroes of Tomorrow is set in a major gallery on the night a celebrated Scandinavian artist is about to unveil a new work. From that single situation Brokentalkers pull apart the relationship between art, activism and power: who funds the work, whose story it takes, and what gets called extraction when it happens somewhere else and curation when it happens here. Colonisation and exploitation sit at the centre of the argument rather than at its edges.

Brokentalkers have spent two decades making documentary-inflected theatre that refuses to settle into one form, and this piece is created by Feidlim Cannon, Gary Keegan and Andy Smith. It runs eighty minutes with an age guidance of 16 and over. The Black Box date is a single night in early October, and at €22 it is priced below most touring drama on the Galway autumn calendar.

Getting There

The Black Box Theatre is on Dyke Road, about a fifteen minute walk north of Eyre Square past Woodquay and the Galway Sportsground. Drivers come in from Dublin and the midlands on the M6 and N6 and follow the Headford Road; from Limerick, Gort and Ennis the M18 and N18 feed into the same approach. The theatre has a large car park of its own on Dyke Road, which suits anyone driving in from Tuam, Headford, Claregalway or Oughterard. City bus services run the Headford Road corridor, and Ceannt Station is roughly twenty minutes on foot.
