What to Expect

Brigit’s Garden marks the turn of the season with a free Autumn Nature Day on Sunday 13 September 2026, split into a morning and an afternoon block of guided sessions. The morning, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM, offers a forest bathing walk and a family storytelling session. The afternoon, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, runs a native trees walk, nature crafts and a seed-saving workshop.

Each session lasts between an hour and a half and two hours and is led by a guide with expertise in the subject. Forest bathing is a slow, sensory walk rather than a hike, aimed at people who want to decompress rather than cover ground. The native trees walk goes into the folklore attached to Irish species as well as the ecology. The seed-saving workshop is practical: how to collect, dry and store seed from your own garden so you are not buying it again next spring. Storytelling is pitched at families with children aged four and up. The day is funded by the SSE Airtricity Generation Green Fund and the Heritage Council, which is why it is free, though some sessions take a small refundable booking deposit to discourage no-shows.

Getting There

Brigit’s Garden is at Pollagh near Rosscahill, off the N59 Galway to Clifden road, about 15km northwest of Galway city and roughly a twenty-five minute drive. Coming from the city, follow the N59 through Moycullen and watch for the signposted turn shortly before Rosscahill village. There is free on-site parking. Public transport is thin on this route: Bus Eireann services between Galway and Clifden run along the N59 but do not stop at the garden itself, so a car or a taxi from Moycullen or Oughterard is the practical option. Oughterard, 8km further on, is the nearest town for food and accommodation.
