What to Expect

The Beat play Monroe’s Live on Thursday 29 October 2026, with doors at 7:30 PM. The Birmingham band were one of the defining acts of the 2 Tone label at the turn of the 1980s, and the Monroe’s date puts them in a standing room of a few hundred rather than a theatre, which is the setting their catalogue was built for.

Monroe’s Live is the gig room attached to Monroe’s Tavern on Dominick Street Upper in the West End of Galway city. It has a raised stage, house PA and bar service to the side, and the floor fills quickly for shows with a dancing crowd. This one falls midweek in the run-up to Halloween, when Monroe’s programme is dense: Daoiri Farrell follows on the Friday and a Rory Gallagher tribute lands two weeks later. Getting There

Monroe’s is on Dominick Street Upper in Galway’s West End, about ten minutes on foot from Eyre Square across the Wolfe Tone Bridge and up Dominick Street Lower. Drivers coming in on the N6 should use the Fairgreen or Jury’s Inn multi-storey car parks and walk in. City bus services along Fr Griffin Road and Dominick Street stop within a minute or two of the venue, and Galway Ceannt railway and bus station is roughly fifteen minutes’ walk on the far side of the river.
