Bach, Bows and Arrows with Julian Lloyd Webber at Town Hall Theatre

At Town Hall Theatre · Courthouse Square, Galway City, Co. Galway

A cellist performing on stage at Town Hall Theatre Galway

What to Expect

Julian Lloyd Webber built a career on the cello across more than sixty recorded albums, won a Brit Award, became the first official classical busker on the London Underground and played at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games. He no longer performs, but he talks, and this evening is built around Bach’s Cello Suites and the strange fact that they sat undiscovered for close to two hundred years before anyone treated them as concert music.

The format mixes storytelling, live performance and archive footage. Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, cellist and Julian’s wife, plays through the evening while Julian draws on his autobiography Bows and Arrows to talk about the music, his own career and the accidents that shaped both. The night ends with an audience question and answer session with both musicians. Running time is 125 minutes including an interval, with an age guidance of 12 and over.
