What to Expect

Triona Marshall gives a solo Irish harp concert in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church on Saturday 26 September 2026. Doors open at 7:30pm and the music starts at 8pm, running to about 9:30pm. The room matters more than usual for a concert like this. St Nicholas’ dates from 1320 and is the largest medieval parish church in Ireland still in continuous use, with cut stone walls, a high timber roof and almost nothing soft to absorb sound. A harp played quietly in that space carries to the back of the nave without amplification, which is the whole point of putting a solo instrument in a church rather than a bar. The concert falls in a busy autumn week at St Nicholas’, two days after the Luminosa String Orchestra and a fortnight before the Coffee Concert with harpsichordist Michael Shields on 10 October.

Getting There

St Nicholas’ stands on Lombard Street, just off Shop Street in the pedestrianised medieval quarter, about five minutes on foot from Eyre Square. There is no parking at the church, so leave the car in one of the multi-storey car parks on the edge of the centre and walk in through the old town. Saturday evening parking in the centre fills up, so allow extra time. Ceannt Station and the Eyre Square bus stops are both close. Drivers arrive on the M6 and N6 from Dublin and the midlands, the N17 from Tuam, the N18 from Ennis and Limerick, or the N59 from Connemara.
