What to Expect

Galway Arts Centre hosts a public conversation between three artists on Thursday 20 August 2026, part of its Gallery Lates strand at 47 Dominick Street Lower. John Rainey, whose solo sculpture exhibition Deviations is on show in the building until 27 September, joins the photographer Enda Burke and the artist Peter Bradley, with Andrew Hetherington of the National Gallery of Ireland chairing.

Gallery Lates run on Thursday evenings during exhibition runs, when the Arts Centre stays open until 9:00 PM rather than closing at 5:00 PM. That gives the talk an informal setting with the work still on the walls, so the discussion happens in front of the pieces being discussed rather than in a lecture room. Rainey’s work in Deviations is cast in porcelain, metal and marble and takes classical figures apart through deliberate misalignments, so the conversation has plenty of material to work with on process and on how digital and hand methods sit together. The same evening, the Arts Centre runs a Heritage Week talk and tour on the Georgian architecture of numbers 45 and 47 Dominick Street.

Getting There

Galway Arts Centre is at 47 Dominick Street Lower in the West End, a seven-minute walk from Eyre Square across the Wolfe Tone Bridge and two minutes from the Spanish Arch. Drivers arriving on the N6 should use the Fairgreen or Jury’s Inn multi-storey car parks, as Dominick Street parking is metered and limited in the evening. City bus routes along Fr Griffin Road stop nearby, and Galway Ceannt railway and bus station is around twelve minutes’ walk.
