At Black Box Theatre · Dyke Road, Galway City, Co. Galway
Kyla Cobbler is a stand-up comedian and social media personality, and this ninety-minute event is built around her memoir Happy, Thank You. More, Please. The book covers a route to self-acceptance that took in a string of dating disasters and a wrongful arrest for drug smuggling, and lands on the argument that happiness is something you make rather than something you find. The conversation format gives her room to tell the stories at length rather than in punchline form.
Kennys Bookshop present the evening in association with Town Hall Theatre Galway, staged in the Black Box rather than in a bookshop back room, which reflects how well these author-in-conversation nights sell in the city. Every ticket includes a signed copy of the book, which accounts for most of the €30 price. The show starts at 8pm on the Tuesday.
The Black Box Theatre is on Dyke Road, about fifteen minutes’ walk north of Eyre Square through Woodquay and past the Galway Sportsground. Drivers arrive from Dublin, Athlone and Ballinasloe on the M6 and N6 and follow the Headford Road in; the M18 and N18 come up from Limerick, Gort and Ennis. There is a large car park at the venue on Dyke Road, which is the simplest option for anyone driving in from Tuam, Headford or Claregalway. City buses run the Headford Road corridor and Ceannt Station is roughly twenty minutes away on foot.
