Four Rivers presents Jenny Instead at Wexford Arts Centre

What to Expect

Jenny Instead is a new play by Eoghan Rua Finn, produced by Four Rivers and directed by Emma Finegan, running at Wexford Arts Centre from Thursday 3 to Saturday 5 September. It is a two-hander set in present-day Dublin, with Lauren O Leary and Kyle Hixon playing Maria, a reclusive artist, and Paddy, a recently returned emigrant.

The pair meet while each is trying to get out of their own head for a while, and the play follows what happens when their guards drop and unexpected sparks fly. Four Rivers has become one of the more consistent producers of new writing in the south east, and this is the sixth new work from the region the company has staged in four years, following Finn’s Civil War drama Amongst Men in 2023. The design team is Liam Doona on set, Ferdy Emmet on lighting and Jeni Roddy on costume. The production is recommended for ages 16 and over and carries a content warning for themes and scenes of a sexual nature.

Getting There

Wexford Arts Centre is in the Cornmarket in the pedestrianised centre of Wexford town, a short walk up from the quay front and Main Street. Drive in on the N11 from Dublin and Gorey or the N25 from New Ross and Rosslare Europort. Wexford O’Hanrahan railway station, on the Dublin Connolly to Rosslare Europort line, is about ten minutes’ walk away. Paid parking is available along the quays and in the town centre car parks, and early September evenings are quieter than the October festival period.
