At The Ardhowen · Dublin Road, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh
Music in Fermanagh has booked the return of clarinettist Michael Collins and pianist Michael McHale for a recital at the Ardhowen. Both are internationally established players, and the society describes the evening as a captivating programme of masterpieces. The advertised composers are Weber, Brahms and Finzi, which maps neatly onto the core of the clarinet and piano repertoire: Weber for the early Romantic bravura writing, Brahms for the late sonatas that reshaped what the instrument could do, and Finzi for the English lyrical strand of the twentieth century.
This is a chamber recital rather than an orchestral concert, so the Ardhowen auditorium works in its favour. Music in Fermanagh runs a season of classical dates in the county and this is one of the bigger names on it. The event is supported by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council and Experience Enniskillen.
The Ardhowen stands on the Dublin Road on the southern approach to Enniskillen, overlooking Lough Erne, with free parking on site. Drivers from the south come via the A509 through Belturbet and onto the A4, Belfast traffic takes the M1 and A4, and the A32 brings you down from Omagh. Enniskillen bus station on Wellington Road handles Ulsterbus and Bus Eireann services including the Dublin route, and a taxi from there to the theatre takes only a few minutes. Recitals tend to start promptly and latecomers are usually held until a break between works, so leave yourself time to park.
