Calum MacPhail Live at the Ardhowen

At The Ardhowen · Dublin Road, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh

Accordionist and band playing Scottish and Irish folk music at the Ardhowen, Enniskillen

What to Expect

Calum MacPhail is a Scottish singer, songwriter and accordionist who plays the crossover territory between traditional Scottish folk and Irish music, and he brings a full band to Enniskillen. He founded the award-winning folk band Ho-ro at sixteen and has since built a solo career that has taken in Eden Court Theatre in Inverness and the Royal Highland Show, along with support slots for major Irish artists.

The current show leans on his album Highlands to Heartlands, which includes the track Bonnie Wee Jeannie. The Ardhowen describes it as a high-energy set, and the accordion-led arrangements sit comfortably with a Fermanagh audience already familiar with the Irish side of that repertoire. A smoke or haze machine and flashing lights are used during the performance.

Drivers from Cavan and Dublin come north on the A509 and then join the A4, Belfast traffic uses the M1 and A4, and the A32 links down from Omagh. Enniskillen bus station on Wellington Road covers Ulsterbus and Bus Eireann routes including the Dublin coach, and a taxi from there to the venue is a short hop. Saturday nights at the Ardhowen are busy, so aim to arrive well before eight if you want a drink before the set.
