RNID Hearing Drop-In at Fermanagh House

At Fermanagh House · Broadmeadow Place, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, BT74 7HR

A hearing aid being cleaned and retubed at a support session

What to Expect

RNID runs a free hearing drop-in at Fermanagh House on the first Thursday of every month, staffed by people who deal with the everyday problems that stop a hearing aid working properly. That covers retubing, cleaning, changing batteries and checking that a device is doing what it should, all jobs that would otherwise mean waiting for an audiology appointment. Anyone can call in during the 90 minute session without booking, and there is no charge.

Alongside the maintenance side, the session offers information on hearing loss, tinnitus, and the equipment and services available locally, and a basic hearing check for people who suspect their hearing has changed but have not yet been referred. RNID, formerly the Royal National Institute for Deaf People, runs a network of community drop-ins across Northern Ireland precisely because most hearing aid faults are mechanical rather than medical and can be fixed on the spot in a few minutes. Fermanagh House hosts it as one of several health drop-ins in the building, alongside a weekly dementia singing group, a Thursday breastfeeding group and monthly support meetings for macular disease and sarcoidosis, so the venue is already familiar to many of the people who use it. Bring the hearing aid itself, and the battery type if you know it.
