What to Expect

Songs from Home is a singing programme running across the Fermanagh and Omagh district under the council’s PEACEPLUS programme, with bookings handled by Dún Uladh. The Fermanagh class strand runs at the Bawnacre Centre in Irvinestown on Tuesdays from 11am to 1pm, starting on Tuesday 1 September 2026 and continuing weekly for six weeks. It is a taught class rather than a performance, aimed at people who want to sing in company without needing to read music or audition.

The Irvinestown sessions are facilitated by Tom Sweeney and run on 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 September and 6 October 2026. Two further strands run on the Omagh side of the district: Saturday mornings at St Columba’s in Omagh from 11am to 1pm with Fil Campbell, on 29 August and 5, 12, 19 and 26 September and 3 October, and a strand delivered with the Travelling community at Omagh Community House on 12, 19 and 26 September and 3 October. All three feed into a grand finale on Saturday 10 October 2026 at the Ulster American Folk Park, billed as the Songs and Stories Trail of Fermanagh and Omagh, where the groups come together. The council lists the whole programme as free.

Getting There

The Bawnacre Centre is Irvinestown’s main community and leisure complex, a short walk from the town centre. Irvinestown sits on the A32 between Enniskillen and Omagh, roughly ten miles north of Enniskillen, and there is parking at the centre.

Translink Ulsterbus services on the Enniskillen to Omagh route stop in Irvinestown, and a late morning class start makes the bus workable in both directions.
