At Marble Arch Caves · 43 Marlbank Road, Florencecourt, Co. Fermanagh, BT92 1EW
Mind of Sound is a guided sound session held inside the show cave at Marble Arch Caves, around 50 metres below ground. Participants walk down into the cave, settle on the floor of a chamber and lie back while the facilitator works through a set of therapeutic instruments: a 28 inch Chao gong, a 36 inch Feng gong, shamanic drumming and harmonic singing. The limestone walls do the rest, holding and stretching the sound in a way no hall above ground can match.
The session is billed as a spiritual sound journey rather than a concert, with the stated aim of quieting the mind and deeply relaxing the body. It runs for 90 minutes from 9:00am, before the caves open to general visitors, so the chamber is quiet apart from dripping water and the instruments. Marble Arch Caves runs it alongside its Earth Yoga sessions as part of a small underground wellbeing programme, and dates recur roughly monthly through the season. The cave holds a steady temperature of around 9 degrees Celsius and access is down 154 steps, so warm layers and flat shoes matter more than they might for a session above ground.
The caves are on the Marlbank Road above Florencecourt in southwest Fermanagh, about 20 minutes from Enniskillen. Drive out on the A4 and pick up the A32 towards Swanlinbar, then follow the brown Marble Arch Caves signs through the Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark. Free parking is available at the visitor centre. There is no bus route to the site, so plan on driving or taking a taxi from Enniskillen, and allow extra time for the walk down to the cave entrance before a 9:00am start.
