At Rathfarnham Castle · Rathfarnham Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14

Choral ensemble Lux Brumalis performs a concert called Sanctuary at Rathfarnham Castle on Saturday 28 November, closing out the castle’s 2026 evening concert programme as the year moves toward winter. It suits anyone who enjoys choral or classical music in an intimate historic setting.
The 90 minute programme spans choral works from the 16th century through to contemporary compositions, moving from Renaissance polyphony to more modern pieces rather than sticking to one period. Lux Brumalis came to wider attention through RTE Lyric FM’s Choirs for Christmas competition, and while Sanctuary is not marketed specifically as a Christmas concert, its late November date and choral repertoire make it a good option for anyone looking to ease into the festive season with something more reflective than a standard carol concert. Doors open at 7:30pm ahead of the 8pm start, with the performance itself running through to around 9:30pm inside the castle’s historic interior.
The castle’s Great Drawing Room and stairwell, restored to their 18th century decorative scheme, give the concert a very different acoustic and visual setting from a standard concert hall, and it is worth arriving a little early to look around before taking a seat.
Rathfarnham Castle is on Rathfarnham Road, served by Dublin Bus routes from the city centre into Rathfarnham village. There is no Luas or DART stop within walking distance. Parking is available on site.
Rathfarnham village has cafes and restaurants within a short walk of the castle for a bite to eat before an evening concert, and the castle grounds themselves are worth a stroll if the evening is dry. There is more to explore across Co. Dublin.
