At Church of the Assumption · Main Street, Howth, Co. Dublin
Only the published dates are confirmed for this programme.
Barken Productions stages a festive concert inside the Church of the Assumption on Howth’s Main Street, built around three vocalists and a small string and piano ensemble. It suits anyone looking for a traditional Christmas concert in a proper acoustic setting rather than a big commercial show, and gives the village an early-December alternative to the usual round of pub singalongs and shopping-centre Santa visits.
Vocalists Barbara Galvin, Jeremy Morgan and Kenneth O’Regan perform a programme of Christmas music accompanied by piano, violin and cello, running two hours with doors opening half an hour before the start. The concert is aimed at bringing what the organisers describe as old-fashioned Christmas spirit to the audience through carefully chosen holiday music rather than a full orchestral production. The church setting suits the small-ensemble format well, with the building’s acoustics doing much of the work that a larger venue would need amplification for.
The Church of the Assumption is on Howth’s Main Street, a short walk from Howth DART station, the terminus of the northern DART line, about 30 minutes from Dublin city centre. Dublin Bus routes 31 and 31A also serve the village. Free parking is available for the concert.
Howth’s harbour and seafood restaurants are close by for dinner before the concert, and the village’s Christmas lights are usually up by mid-December, adding to the atmosphere on the walk in. The harbour itself is worth a stop too, with fishing boats and seafood stalls still trading right through the winter months. More on the area is at Howth and across Co. Dublin.
