Gifted brings over 400 craft and design makers to Hall 1 of the RDS for five days in early December, making it one of the bigger stops on the Dublin Christmas shopping calendar for handmade gifts. It suits anyone doing Christmas shopping who would rather buy something made by an individual maker than another mass produced item, and it also covers artisan food producers for edible gifts and stocking fillers.
Stalls cover jewellery, homeware, textiles, ceramics, art and design pieces alongside artisan food and drink, all from independent Irish and visiting makers rather than importers or wholesalers. With more than 400 exhibitors under one roof, it rewards a proper browse rather than a quick in and out, and many stallholders take card payment on the day for anyone not carrying cash.
The RDS is on Merrion Road in Ballsbridge, about 2km south of the city centre. Lansdowne Road DART station is a five minute walk from the main entrance, and Dublin Bus routes 4 and 7 run directly from the city centre. On site parking is available but the fair draws large crowds on the closing weekend, so the DART is the more reliable option, especially with shopping bags to carry home.
Ballsbridge has cafes and restaurants around Merrion Road and Pembroke Street for a break between the stalls, and the area has a good selection of independent shops of its own if the Christmas shopping mood carries on after the fair. There is more to see in Co. Dublin.
