Wine merchant Mitchell & Son runs a guided tasting evening at its Vaults venue near Harcourt Street on 22 October, pairing five wines with a spread of Irish artisan cheese and charcuterie. Led by Ken Kinsella, it is built as an informal evening for any level of wine knowledge, with the focus on regional character and winemaking technique rather than formal tasting notes.
The evening runs two hours and fifteen minutes, from 6.15pm with doors at 6.05pm through to 8.30pm. It opens with a welcome glass of sparkling wine, followed by a tasting of five wines, two white and three red, each paired with food from a spread that includes Sheridan’s Irish artisan cheese, award-winning charcuterie, gourmet crackers, sourdough and roasted nuts, alongside homemade condiments such as spiced tomato chutney and caramelised red onion jam. It is an 18 plus event with 30 tickets available, so it stays small enough for genuine conversation with the host.
Mitchells @ The Vaults occupies the old Harcourt Street railway station building on Hatch Street Upper, close to St Stephen’s Green. The Luas Green Line terminus at St Stephen’s Green is a short walk away, as is the Charlemont stop further down the line. Numerous Dublin Bus routes serve the Green and surrounding streets, and Pearse Street DART station is within reasonable walking distance. On-street parking nearby is metered and limited, with the Stephen’s Green and Setanta car parks the more reliable options for anyone driving.
