At Abbey Tavern · 28 Abbey Street, Howth, Dublin 13
Only the published dates are confirmed for this programme.
Dublin comedian Willa White brings his new stand-up show Dead Man Talking to the Abbey Tavern in Howth on Friday 6 November, starting at 8:00pm. White has recently sold out both of Dublin’s major comedy theatres, and this hour turns to mortality and memory, framed around a suicide attempt in 1991 that he says he realistically should not have survived.
The show balances its heavier subject matter with warmth, weighing the friends and family White has lost along the way against the fun times and shared memories of what he calls this rollercoaster of a life. It is a more reflective hour than a typical pub comedy set, though still built around laughs rather than a straight memoir. This is an over-18s event, and valid photo ID may be requested at the door.
Howth is the last stop on the DART’s northern line, about 30 minutes from Dublin city centre, and the Abbey Tavern on Abbey Street is a short walk from the station and the harbour. Dublin Bus routes 31 and 31A also serve the village. On-street parking is available around Howth, though it can fill up on Friday evenings.
Howth Castle’s demesne and the cliff path above the harbour are both a short walk from the village centre, worth an earlier visit if you are making a day of it before the evening show. The harbour itself, close to the Abbey Tavern, has seafood restaurants and pubs for dinner beforehand. More on the area is at Co. Dublin.
