At Draiocht, Main Auditorium · Blanchardstown Centre, Blanchardstown, Co. Dublin
Only the published dates are confirmed for this programme.
Foil Arms and Hog, the Irish sketch comedy trio built on viral online videos and a long-running live and podcast career, bring a new Work in Progress show to Draiocht’s Main Auditorium over two nights. The group has also been touring this material to other Irish arts centres on different dates, road-testing new sketch material ahead of a fuller show, with the Blanchardstown dates part of that run.
The trio, Sean Finegan, Conor McKenna and Sean Flanagan, met in the drama society at University College Dublin, where they were studying architecture, genetics and engineering respectively, and formed the group in 2008. They have performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe every year since 2009 and have since toured Ireland, the UK, North America, Australia and Europe. Alongside live shows, the trio release a new sketch most Thursdays on YouTube, where their channel has passed 1.25 million subscribers and over 630 million views, with past sketches covering everything from Irish language proficiency to Brexit and Dublin dialect humour.
A Work in Progress booking means the trio are trying out newer material in front of a live audience rather than performing a fully polished, previously toured set, which tends to make for a looser, more unpredictable night than their finished shows. Expect the group’s usual mix of character sketches and audience interaction, performed in Draiocht’s seated Main Auditorium. With two consecutive nights on offer, there’s flexibility to pick whichever suits, though a well-known act like this at a regional venue can sell out, so booking ahead is worth it.
Draiocht’s comedy strand runs alongside its music, theatre and cinema programming through the same building, and a well-known touring act like this is one of the bigger comedy bookings on the autumn calendar.
Draiocht is inside the Blanchardstown Centre in Dublin 15, next to Blanchardstown Library, on regular Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead routes from the city and surrounding suburbs, including the 39 and 70 from the city centre. The Blanchardstown Centre has more than 7,000 free parking spaces for visitors.
Draiocht opened in 2001 and its Main Auditorium seats around 290 people, with a smaller studio theatre alongside it and Blanchardstown Library next door, so there is more to do in the same complex before or after a show. There is more to see across Co. Dublin.
