DCU Book Club with Oisin Fagan

At DCU Albert College · 1838 Presidents Lounge, Albert College, Glasnevin, Dublin 9

Author in conversation on stage in front of an audience

DCU Arts and Culture hosts novelist Oisin Fagan for an in conversation event at the Presidents Lounge in Albert College on DCU’s Glasnevin campus, discussing his novel Eden’s Shore. It suits readers who enjoy literary fiction and author events, DCU students and staff with an interest in contemporary Irish writing, and anyone local to Glasnevin looking for an evening out that does not involve a trip into the city centre.

What to expect

The conversation is moderated by Colin Barrett, DCU’s Writer in Residence, and runs for an hour in the Presidents Lounge, a smaller, more intimate setting than a full lecture theatre. Eden’s Shore is described by its publisher as an epic and intricate tale of greed, revenge and love set during a period of global upheaval, and the format gives Fagan room to talk through the novel’s themes and his own writing process rather than a rushed reading and signing. Expect an evening pitched at general readers rather than a purely academic literary discussion. It is billed as an in conversation event rather than a reading and signing, so the emphasis stays on discussion between two working novelists across the full hour.

Getting there

Albert College is on DCU’s Glasnevin campus, Dublin 9. Dublin Bus routes serving DCU and Ballymun Road stop close to the campus, and there is parking on site. The venue is an easy evening trip from Drumcondra, Whitehall and Glasnevin village.

While you’re in Glasnevin

Glasnevin village has cafes and pubs for a bite before the talk, and Glasnevin Cemetery and the National Botanic Gardens are both close by if you want to make an afternoon of it beforehand. There is more to see across Co. Dublin.
