Queen’s University Players Society bring Brian Friel’s Philadelphia, Here I Come! to An Grianán Theatre in Letterkenny across two days, an 8pm performance on Monday 19 October 2026 and an 11am matinee on Tuesday 20 October.
An Grianán’s listing has the production staged by Queen’s University Players Society as part of the theatre’s Young Curators Programme 2026, directed by young curator Bridget Salaja, and calls the play a poignant and darkly comic exploration of identity, memory and the ache of leaving home, in which the central character’s restrained public self collides with his unfiltered private self on the eve of emigration. Friel, one of Ireland’s best-known playwrights, set much of his work in the fictional Donegal town of Ballybeg.
An Grianán Theatre is on Port Road in Letterkenny, Donegal’s largest town and its main arts venue, a short walk from the town centre and bus station. The box office is on 074 91 20777, open Monday to Saturday, 9.30am to 5pm, for directions or access queries before the show. Letterkenny is the easiest Donegal town to reach by bus, with routes from Derry, Sligo and Dublin as well as across the county.
Letterkenny is Donegal’s county town, with Main Street running up to St Eunan’s Cathedral and a riverside walk along the Swilly close to the theatre. A touring student production over two days is a reminder of how much of An Grianán’s programme comes from outside the county as well as from local groups. More on Letterkenny and Co. Donegal.
