Donegal LGFA Intermediate Football Championship 2026 - Round 2

What to Expect

The Donegal ladies intermediate championship is contested by clubs drawn from Inishowen, the north west and the south west: Carndonagh, Naomh Columba, Na Cealla Beaga, Buncrana, Na Dúnaibh, Gaoth Dobhair and Ardara. It runs as a five-round group series played on Sunday mornings from 9 August through to 6 September, with the knockout stages following later in the autumn. Promotion to the senior grade is the reward for the club that comes through.

Round 1 on Sunday 9 August had Carndonagh at home to Naomh Columba, Na Cealla Beaga hosting Buncrana at the Eamonn Byrne Memorial Park and Na Dúnaibh taking on Gaoth Dobhair in Downings. Round 2 on Sunday 16 August brings Ardara into the competition for the first time. Games throw in between 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM, and the fixtures are usually paired with a men’s championship tie at the same ground later in the day.

• Throw-in times are confirmed on donegalgaa.ie and can shift by half an hour

Getting There

Ardara and Killybegs both sit on the N56 west of Donegal town, about 40 and 30 minutes out respectively, with free parking at each pitch. Buncrana’s ground is on the edge of the town, reached on the R238 from Bridgend and the N13, roughly 25 minutes from Derry and 35 from Letterkenny. Bus Eireann runs a Letterkenny to Buncrana service but the Sunday morning timetable is thin, so a car is the practical option for any of these three games.
